On the market you can, in contrary to normal shops, buy stuff for local currency (pesos national). For all the rest tourists have to pay with the newly introduced pesos convertible (rechangeable pesos). The ex-change rate is one to one with the American dollar and the money can be changed back to dollars or euro's. Most luxurious goods can only be purchased by this currency. Altogether the general cost of living (travelling) is lower than the European, but considerable higher then in other Latin American countries.
