May I introduce to you: Pipo, our hospita's husband. In Cuba private persons nowadays can rent rooms to foreigners under strict conditions and abundant taxes. Pipo is a roadsweeper`s shift leader. He leaves early morning eight o'clock to set off for a two hour journey to the remote town where his job is located. He returns three in the afternoon after having worked for 10 hours. Nothing is impossible with efficient planning!

Whenever Castro is on television for one of his little speeches everybody very loud and visible is playing the television. It is recommendable to show you are a devoted Castro believer (although nobody actually listens for more than 5 minutes).

Noticeable on this photo: a lot of people have television- and video-sets and sometimes even computers. Indeed by third world standards we are not talking of a poor community. Also social security is in function: food for poor people. However, unemployment is an unknown phenomena, there is always work to be found, even if it means performing one job by three people. The concept of hidden unemployment has not revealed itself yet and the influence of free market has not spread yet over this island.
